Dr. Higgins is the Vice President of Strategic Development at Arthrex, Inc., a global medical device company and leader in new product development and medical education in orthopedics. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Stony Brook University in 1987, his Master of Science in Physiology from Georgetown University, and medical degree with Distinction in Research from the Renaissance School of Medicine in 1992. He completed his orthopedic residency at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. Following his residency, he went on to train as a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellow at The Center for Sports Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
From 2005 – 2018, Dr. Higgins served as the Chief of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital Sports Medicine and Shoulder Service in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Boston, MA. During this time, he developed a world-class and internationally renowned clinical care and subspecialty training programs and served as an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and the combined Harvard Orthopaedic Residency program. Dr. Higgins has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and chapters and has led both prospective and retrospective clinical studies in orthopedics and value driven health care delivery. Compelled to expand his impact on value driven care and outcomes research, Dr. Higgins received his MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT and lectured at Harvard Business School.
